This is how Red7 go about producing your craft:
1. Mould preparation- the mould is cleaned, polished and released.
2. Gel coating- the colour that you chose is sprayed onto the mould and left to dry. This provides a hard colour impregnated outer layer that waterproofs and protects the structure.
3. Stacking- the outside layer of cloth is draped into the mould, followed by the core and then the inside layer of cloth.
4. Resin and Vacuum lines are carefully positioned.
5. Vacuum Bagged- a sealed bag is used to place the laminate under vacuum and in doing so compress the laminate against the moulds.
6. Infused- the resin is drawn under vacuum through the cloth.
7. Curing process- the craft is temperature cured to maximise the chemical integrity of the resins.
8. Releasing- the craft, once cured, is released from the mould.
9. Finishing: Rudder system, handles and other accessories are added.
10. Pressure Test: All craft are pressure tested to ensure that there are no leaks.
11. Quality Control: The craft is then inspected according to a stringent check list to see that it meets the required standards. The craft is weighed (this weight is noted on the product) then it is finally wrapped and dispatched.
The materials used commonly to construct the boats include:
Carbon – provides stiffness at a light weight
Kevlar – light and durable
Fiberglass cloth – various forms and weights are used
Core Materials – provides bulk for rigidity and also provides a flow medium for the resins. Various cores are used depending on the craft use and weight required.
Resins: Resins have been specially produced to meet our production process and craft requirements.
